Excursion: GRANADA & THE ALHAMBRA PALACE
Departing from the Costa del Sol you will head towards Granada. On arrival you will make a sightseeing tour by coach in order to see the most interesting sites, including a guided visit of the Basilica of Our Lady o Sorrows, temple of the Patroness of the city of Granada and of the whole province of Granada. You will then have the chance to visit the World Heritage Site of “El Albayzín”, the most representative district of the city.
THE ALBAYZÍN will be your first stop. The famous quarter retains the narrow winding streets of it Medieval Moorish past dating back to the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1984, along with the Alhambra. You will visit the famous San Cristobal Viewpoint where you will be delighted by the most beautiful views of the Alhambra Palace with Sierra Nevada in the background.
THE CATHEDRAL & THE ROYAL CHAPEL located in the city centre will be our next stop. The impressive Cathedral of Granada, built where the Mosque of Granada once stood, is one of the most important references of the Spanish Renaissance. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Royal Chapel, where the tomb of the Catholic Monarchs is located.
After our tour in the city centre you will have at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of free time to enjoy the city on your own or have lunch in the “Capital of the Tapas”. You can also go shopping in the typical bazaars or maybe have a cup of tea in the typical Moorish-style tearooms.
ALHAMBRA PALACE + NASRID PALACES the most visited monument in Europe, declared World Heritage by the UNESCO. The local guide will be waiting for you and will help you to discover this universally renowned monumental complex. The palatine city of the Alhambra is designed in the Nasrid style, the last blooming of Islamic Art in the Iberian Peninsula. Your tour includes access to the high demanded Nasrid Palaces with its popular Court of Lions, the Palace of Charles V and the Alcazaba.
THE GENERALIFE GARDENS were built for the Moorish Monarchs as their resting place. You will have the opportunity to be delighted by its beautiful fountains and plants. The walk through the palaces and the gardens, which takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes, will make you go back in time and experience the unique atmosphere which inspired, among others, the American writer Washington Irving, who wrote here his Tales of the Alhambra.
